Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Addressing fear, worry, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive spectrum conditions, CBT Baltimore offers outpatient CBT which is tailored to the patient’s needs. Most commonly, patients engage in a weekly 45- or 50-minute session.

What is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?

CBT is an umbrella term for an approach to psychotherapy and a collection of treatment techniques. It works by addressing the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors using a variety of teachable skills and techniques, including psycho-education, behavioral exposure and response prevention, habit reversal training, managing behavioral contingencies, cognitive restructuring, behavioral experimentation, problem solving, goal setting, mindfulness, acceptance-based exercises, behavioral scheduling, sleep hygiene, and more. Since each patient presents with unique strengths and clinical concerns, CBT Solutions tailors the CBT treatment plan to each person.

Those treatments can be supplemented with family sessions when parents and other loved ones are involved.

This general approach changes if the patient requires additional or fewer sessions per week, or if a longer session is necessary to accommodate behavioral exercises.

When working with OCD, sessions outside the office may be beneficial.  As treatment progresses, sessions may begin to be scheduled at a bi-weekly pace and then a booster session further out to ease out of treatment.  In some circumstances it is most beneficial to schedule multiple sessions a week or have longer sessions.
