My name is Andy Santanello, and I am a clinical psychologist. It’s nice to meet you! Are you feeling “stuck?” Most people feel that way at some point in their lives. In fact, problems with anxiety, depression, grief, stress, and dissatisfaction with life are a lot more common than you might think. I provide cognitive behavior therapy: a treatment that is evidence-based, client-focused, and tailor-made to get you “unstuck.” Although I have experience treating a variety of anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorders, I especially enjoy working with clients who are struggling with phobias, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, PTSD, chronic stress, Insomnia Disorder, as well as Major Depressive Disorder and Chronic Depression (also know as Persistent Depressive Disorder).
My clients and I work together to determine the unique factors that keep them stuck, and then develop new skills and insights that can be used to stop struggling and start living. Depending on the presenting problem, specific, evidence-based protocols may be used or a tailor-made treatment plan including evidence-based, cognitive and behavioral interventions will be developed. In addition to therapy sessions, my clients are almost always expected to practice cognitive and behavioral skills between sessions. Regardless of the approach, I strive to create an empowering and supportive environment to allow my clients to face the things that need to be faced and change the things that need to be changed. Overall, my goal is to teach you to be your own therapist.
In addition to receiving a doctorate in clinical psychology from La Salle University, I have extensive training in a variety of cognitive behavioral approaches to therapy. Specifically, I have received intensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression, Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Depression, Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD, Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Panic Control Treatment, Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Insomnia, and Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD. Prior to joining CBT of Baltimore, I served as a Staff Psychologist in the Trauma Recovery Program in the Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System for over a decade. In addition to private practice, I am a full-time, Military Behavioral Health Psychologist and a National Cognitive Processing Therapy trainer.
